Amerispa – our first day trip without kids since COVID.
Like many of us, it’s been a long, LONG time in self isolation during this global pandemic. For the past few months we have been isolated, spending 24/7 together. That/s me, my kids and my husband,under one roof. It is not always easy.
As businesses and restaurants started opening back up we realized we needed some time away from our kids. There’s no better place to relax without kids, than at a Nordic Spa. One of our favorite places for a day trip is Ofuro Spa in Morin Heights (read review of Ofuro here). This time my husband suggested that we try a new place, so we decided to check out AmeriSpa, also in Morin Heights and just minutes away from Ofuro.
One thing I found interesting is that AmeriSpa is actually a chain of Nordic Spas located all over Quebec. If you visit their website, make sure to check out the Morin Heights location. And they have promotions that are valid for all locations, which is a bonus.
Not only was this the first outing in awhile without kids, it was also the first one of COVID, which meant wearing masks! It also happened to be our 20th anniversary, so I was really looking forward to getting away!
First of all I have to say this place really is a well hidden gem! The signs are there but the actual spa is up a path and tucked into the woods. Once you make your way you are greeted with a beautiful entryway.
After the beautiful drive, I waltzed into the spa, with my mask, IN MY PURSE! They kindly reminded me to put on my mask and that we have to wear masks inside the building and within 6 feet of people while on the property. Thankfully the second part wasn’t a problem cause there was almost none there. It really struck home the perilous situation of small business owners. They are in need of people to get back out (in a safe way) and start generating business.
Once I donned my mask we made our way to the locker rooms where in each locker there was a nicely folded towel and a plastic bag to put your wet swimsuit in afterwards.
Then it was onto the spa area. You’ll notice the hand sanitizer by the door. This is our new reality, face masks and hand sanitizer everywhere!
There are warm pools, cold ones, dry sauna rooms and wet steam rooms. At the time of my visit the steam rooms were closed due to COVID, but there was so many other places to spend time it wasn’t a problem.
One of the places I enjoyed spending time was in the dry sauna. There is a beautiful view to look out and I’m sure the steam really helps open up your pores.
The relaxation rooms require silence, but they are so cozy you have to watch if you fall asleep you may start snoring!
There are no shortage of places to relax, regroup, read or if your like my husband, take a nap. Which I pointed out to him afterwards that he basically paid someone $50 to nap the entire time he was there! Which he still says was worth it!
There is also some local artwork displayed throughout the property.
Sadly, when we were there the cafe was closed. But I definitely plan on going back and having a day to myself and a lunch, that I don’t have to make myself.
Pricing
For pricing, they are pretty much on par for most other nordic spas in the area. Around $48 for access to the spa & after 5 p.m. it’s reduced price of $34.
If you are getting a treatment access to the spa is around $33.
All prices include rental of a towel and a locker.
I would highly recommend you call ahead and book a massage. Their massage prices are a bit lower than other places in the area and with your massage you get access to the spa. We usually always do this, but they were booked up when we booked.
Promotions
They have some cool promotions, like get the 5th massage or facial free.
