Warm weather makes everyone want to be outdoors, having BBQs and enjoying family and friends. One part of enjoying family and friends is preparing food that everyone will enjoy and is stress-free. I have found a super easy summer dessert that will please everyone at your BBQ.
You really can’t get any simpler than the table buffet and the best thing is you can prepare everything in advance!
Supplies:
- Covered table. You can choose whatever you want to protect the table. Parchment paper, brown paper, or whatever you prefer just to long as the food is not directly on the table.
- Fruits of your choosing. We like watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries (really any berry), peaches or whatever you prefer.
- Something sweet – our go-to is two-bite brownies and marshmallows, but have also used chocolates, macarons, mini cupcakes, coconut macaroons, meringues, chocolate chip cookies or whatever you prefer. For my daughters birthday we sprinkled gummy and sour candy all over too!
- Chocolate. This is where the most variety is. We prefer Chocolats Favoris Chocolate Fondues. They are a local Quebec company, offer a wide variety, and you can buy them online. You simply boil the unopened time for 15 -25 minutes depending on the type of chocolate, carefully open and pour (follow instructions on the tin to avoid accidents). If you don’t have access you can double boil your favorite chocolate. If you are camping just put on a pot of water to boil and put a cleaned out tin can in the water and put your chocolate in that to melt.
- Skewers. Although you can use forks it’s more fun and ‘outdoorsy’ with skewers that people can use as they go up and down the table picking what they want to have.
Tips
- I cut up all the fruits and place them, and the sweet all in containers so when it’s time to set it up I just grab and go.
- The full round slices of watermelon make it look like serving boards which is great, but we pre-cut them into pie shaped pieces so that people could easily pick them up.
- Try to vary the amounts of chocolate poured over the items. This ensures everyone is happy, those who want a little and those who want a lot chocolate!
Instructions
- Clear your table.
- Lay down protective layer.
- Lay our fruits and sweets.
- Drizzle with chocolate
- Sit back and watch your guests be in awe and accept their praises!
I can’t promise that your kids won’t make a mess and lick the table like mine did, but I can say that once you try it this will be your new favorite easy Summer Dessert. You don’t even have to have this in Summer. This Summer Dessert is also great in the Spring and Fall.
