Laval Restaurant: Miss Wong Brasserie Asiatique

Miss Wong Brasserie Asiatique-  Laval

It’s no secret, I am a mom. I used to once have a full-time out of the house job that required me to attend professional dinners and cocktails. The reality is that I do not anymore and like many of my friends most of my outings involved family-friendly restaurants. Thanks to some great friends we try to go out to the latest restaurants or cool activities, even if we aren’t always in the same age demographic.

Being a fan of Asian cuisine, I had to check out Miss Wong’s Brasserie Asiatique in Laval with one of my favorite working moms.

First Impressions

Miss Wong’s used to be the nightclub Moomba. It was renovated in 2018, but to be honest when I went there I was thinking it would still have the 10,000 square foot big open-space nightclub feeling. This was not the case. There is seating for hundreds within the club, which helps it when it later opens up to a club, but if you are going there for a meal, there is a great restaurant feeling with many different seating arrangements to please everyone.

When you first enter and see the walk of waving lucky Maneki Neko cats and the predominance of red and Chinese decor you’ll find it hard to believe the space of Miss Wong’s was every anything else.  But it is really a mix of Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese and Cambodian inspirations. They have done a fantastic job of incorporating a whole 1970s Hollywood theme inspired by American Chinese actress Anna May Wong.

Shocking Surprise:  If we are being honest, we went there thinking we would be the old ladies out for a nice meal surrounded by 20-somethings. We went on a Thursday night and were surprised. Where were all the 20-somethings and teenagers. My friend made the joke that 20 year-old can’t afford the prices, but we didn’t care. It was nice to have a meal in a great atmosphere. Don’t worry, all the 20-somethings showed up later in the night as the atmosphere changed from Miss Wong’s Chinese-fusion restaurant to Miss Wong’s club.  We didn’t mind because we were ready to go home by then!

Before the Meal

Pre-drinner cocktails are a must! It’s a brasserie that turns into a club open until 2am Wednesday to Saturday, so you know they have a wide variety of drinks.

They also offer a wide variety of appetizers ranging from  $5-8. I suggest the BAO and the Hunan dumplings with peanut sauce. Check out the menu.

Main Course

I have said before how I enjoy sharing meals and Miss wong’s is perfect for that. The small plates make it easy to share and best of all you are able to have a bunch of smaller appetizers as your meal. My favorite.

The food is a modern asian-fusion menu cultivated by Vietnamese-Montreal Chef, Phong Thach. The main courses range from $12-21 and there are a lot of options. You can easily find something keto or try something unique like the General Tao Poutine! Yes I know I am obsessed with Poutine.

I haven’t been on a Sunday, but they offer Dim Sum on a special Sunday menu.

Should you go?

This is a simple answer. If you like good asian food, great ambiance/decor and a fun night out then yes! The decor and seating options make it a great place for a date, girls night out or pre-drinks and bar.. and you don’t even need to leave because it turns into a bar.
